The Challenge
Sustain a payment platform processing R$4M+/month in GMV and 14,000+ daily transactions with high availability — keeping checkout fast and resilient to individual payment gateway failures.
The Architecture
A multi-gateway engine using the Abstract Factory pattern to abstract payment providers, with automatic failover. Asynchronous queues (BullMQ + QStash) decouple the checkout path, and the most critical processing was rewritten in Rust via napi-rs. Everything runs on Docker Swarm behind a load balancer and Cloudflare.
The Result
Checkout latency dropped from 800ms to 65ms (-91%) and the critical service went from 20s to 3s (-85%). A full observability stack (Grafana, Loki, Prometheus) with proactive alerting and SLO dashboards keeps the platform reliable at scale.
